Doctrine vs. Applications

I figured it out... :) When I first started this blog, I thought that I needed a place to spout doctrinal essays. But then whenever I would think about topics to blog about, I would struggle with the "so what." I kept thinking, "Everyone knows the doctrine, so what could I possibly have to offer?" Well, now I know. I'm not here to teach you about the doctrine of the church. If you're interested in that you should refer to the links on the right. Prophets, apostles, and bishops can teach you about the gospel. I just want to offer insight into the way I choose to live the gospel and why.

We're taught correct principles and allowed to govern ourselves. This means that we are all left to interpret the things we are taught as far as how we will apply it in our own lives. Thus, we will all come up with different solutions and applications. (I think this is great, because we are complex beings and come from various backgrounds and upbringings. To think that there would be a "one size fits all" for everyone in the church would be silly, especially taking into account the fact that we each need to be allowed to progress and change at our own pace.) Using this blog, I'm going to share the answers I come up with, but this in no way implies that I'm pushing my ideas on anyone else. I'm fine with people disagreeing with me, and I love hearing about how others choose to live the gospel.

With that in mind, please feel free to comment and share your own thoughts, insights, and applications. I think we all benefit from seeing things from another perspective, and I especially love getting ideas about how I can change my life for the better. :)

I should have known it would be about applications. I'm all about applications! My husband gets excited about focusing on the doctrine of the gospel, and I enjoy it too, but what I really love is talking about how to apply it in my life. Because, when we really get down to it, in the end it's not going to be about how much we knew. It's going to be about what we did with that knowledge.
